For the days it still hurts
If you are here because someone small is missing from your home — we are sorry. There is nothing here to fix that. Just a few things we believe are worth saying out loud.
Still crying, years later
That is not weakness, and it is not "failing to move on." Grief is roughly the size of what you shared. Years of mornings, walks, and small routines do not dissolve on a schedule. There is no deadline on grief.
Grieving quietly is still grieving
Some people cry for weeks. Some go quiet, handle the practical things, and only feel it much later — sometimes years later, in the middle of an ordinary day. Both are real. If someone called you "cold" for grieving quietly, they were wrong.
Guilt is love with nowhere to go
"I should have noticed sooner." "I was away that day." Almost everyone who has lost a pet carries a sentence like this. If you are asking whether you loved them enough — the asking is itself the answer.
You do not have to be done
Keep the toys, or don't. Visit the spot, or don't. Get another dog someday, or never. None of these are tests. The ones we loved are not grading us.
